Social Support

We also help navigate the journey of being an asylum seeker, including exploring legal advice options, accommodation and social needs. We provide guidance through the process of resettlement  for people who have been granted Leave to Remain, and Family Reunion for example.

The Transitions project is overseen and led by a resident Social Worker and supported by the wider staff and volunteer team. We work closely with partners both in the community and public sector, to ensure the best opportunities for enable the people we support.

We understand how complex going through difficult social and personal development stages of our lives can be. The Transitions programme offer social support for participants throughout their time at SOLA to enable coping, motivation, independence and self-agency through empowerment, knowledge & skills development.

This programme is available for people already accessing our wider projects. Offering guidance and advocacy for people moving on from mental health difficulties, people who are isolated and vulnerable and people who are going through the asylum system, are destitute or are in process of resettlement.

This can involve a range of practical support with issues such as housing, welfare benefits or universal credit, budgeting in the home, financial literacy and food bank. We signpost to external agencies and as opportunities where appropriate.

The programme also supports people to access further education or training, volunteering opportunities both at SOLA  and with external organisations and opportunities to become more involved in creative opportunities around the city.
